Characterization of wear and fatigue behavior of aluminum piston alloy using alumina nanoparticles

Abstract Due to their excellent thermal conductivity, lightweight, and ease of processing, aluminum alloys are the material choice for piston manufacture in internal combustion engines. Nanoparticles (NPs) alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) with a size 25 nm were incorporated into an alloy examine effect NP addition on wear resistance fatigue behavior. The stir casting method has been utilized experimental samples composite by altering particle weight ratio matrix 2, 4, 6 wt%. surface morphology examined using electronic scanning microscope. results tests indicate that Al enhanced its strength, exception wt% ratio. best improvement strength occurs at 4 particles, which 12.13 67.5%, respectively, more significant than pure metal other composites. mechanical properties have adding NPs piston’s alloy. Stir was employed produce needed composites incorporating varied percentage ratios 0, master Before reached wt%, including NPs, alloy’s hardness tensile improved, according experiment results.
